Premier League results: Burnley win to stay seventh, Swansea drop into relegation zone

Burnley are only outside of the Premier League top four on goal difference after they beat Southampton, while Swansea dropped into the relegation zone.

Sam Vokes' 81st-minute strike gave Burnley a 1-0 win at St Mary's Stadium and put them on level points with fourth-placed Chelsea, who host Manchester United on Sunday.

Also level on 19 points in a congested top of the table are Arsenal and Liverpool - who thrashed West Ham 4-1 to increase the pressure on Slaven Bilic.

Swansea's 1-0 defeat by Brighton at the Liberty Stadium, coupled with Bournemouth's 92nd-minute winner at Newcastle, saw the Welsh side fall to 18th, with the Cherries leapfrogging them into 17th place.

Elsewhere, Rajiv van La Parra's stunning first-half strike gave Huddersfield a 1-0 win against West Brom, condemning the Baggies to their third successive league defeat and they are without a win in nine games.

In Saturday's early kick-off, Peter Crouch scored a late equaliser as Stoke came from behind twice to draw 2-2 with Leicester.

In Scotland, Celtic broke their own 100-year-old British record of 62 domestic games without defeat, as they beat St Johnstone 4-0 in the Scottish Premiership.

In the Championship, Sheffield United beat Hull City 4-1 to go second and two points behind leaders Wolves.

Earlier, Bristol City beat Cardiff City 2-1 and are fourth, while Aston Villa lost by the same scoreline to Sheffield Wednesday.

Sunderland dropped to the bottom of the Championship as Bolton beat Norwich 2-1, with the managerless Black Cats playing Middlesbrough on Sunday.

Every team coach has his style of play....not everyone is able to play the ' possession type of football'

Defensive tactics took Atletico Madrid to CL finals,made Jose a successful manager....I fail to see problem with collecting 3 point playing defensive

Give Burnley a break.....

Celtic's record IS impressive. However, they haven't really had much competition for several years now. The attendance when they play at home is always greater than every other Scottish league game put together that day. They are a comparitively massive fish in a tiny pond.

I am not one bit bothered about the views of supporters of other clubs. When you watch your club sink to the foot of old Division 4, lose to Torquay in a play-off bid and have to endure Jack Walker bankrolling your bitterest rivals to the point of Champions of England, I would take boring boring Burnley any day.
Until you experience the lows, you will not appreciate the highs.

I don't think any of the teams that won today will give a toss whether they've played attractive football the only thing in the EPL is winning and getting 3 points. Has for
Pep Guardiola what a load of garbage he spouts each team plays to their strengths if he thinks Burnley should play like Real Madrid go get a life.Come on the Terriers!!!

Burnley's bubble will eventually burst-preferably around May 2018.
I fail to see a problem with Sean Dyche's methodology of securing 3 points.
It must really pee some clubs off seeing Burnley's success.

Quite a few hints of snobbery once again. Shame. If our beautiful game was a closed shop with our smaller clubs not being allowed to compete to the best of their capabilities, it really would be boring.
The dream of every football supporter is to see their team succeed, regardless of size and finance, right through the divisions.
The game needs stories like Hudds, Burnley, Brighton etc.

After where that overrated loser, Eddie Howe, left Burnley 5 years ago it just shows what an amazing manager Sean Dyche is to be able to turn the mess Howe left behind around and take them from just above the relegation zone in the championship to the top half of the premier league. Sean Dyche truly is such an underrated manager.

Can we just accept that our league is going back to the low quality kick and hoof of the early 90's before the days of Zola, Henry etc raised the tech level?

What we have right now is a European version of the Chinese Super League, big money for average players, many of whom are journeymen. Soulless clubs, few homegrown players and an FA hell bent on big fast youngsters with lesser ball skills

It's not only the smaller teams that get "dull games"

In fact very few teams play really attacking football - Man C, Liverpool, Spurs and on a good day Arsenal.

The Premier League has shown a lot of poor quality the last few weeks.

People are more than happy moaning at Mourinho's tactics and yet every 3pm KO was as dull as dishwater today!

All that money in the league and so many poor performances.

I recall reading a post after Brighton's FIRST EVER game in the PL that they wouldn't win a game this season. I hope that "expert" doesn't try and earn a living as a professional psychic or wager money on the back of his predictions.

@1 You are probably the same person who wants Wenger sacked for playing attractive, exciting football but not winning. Personally I think Dyche is doing an amazing job and the Burnley fans (who can correct me if I’m wrong) would rather watch dull football in the Premier League than exciting football in the Championship

Not sure why Celtic's achievement is being labelled as a 'British record' when no clubs outside Scotland have any connection to it.

Perhaps it makes it sound more impressive than it is.
