Dele Alli: England and Tottenham midfielder ruled out with hamstring injury

Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli has been ruled out of England's friendly matches against Germany and Brazil in November with a hamstring injury.

Alli, 21, missed Sunday's Premier League victory over Crystal Palace with the injury, which boss Mauricio Pochettino described as "minor".

The national team have not announced a replacement in the squad.

Alli's England and Spurs team-mates Harry Winks and Harry Kane required treatment during their side's 1-0 win.

Pochettino said 21-year-old midfielder Winks, who went off at half-time at Wembley, had twisted his ankle.

"It's a bit painful now. We must assess him with the national team medical staff," he said.

"He's so excited to make the national team. It's up to our medical staff and the national team medical staff to make a decision."

Striker Kane, 24, received treatment on his knee in the first half and was substituted on 77 minutes for "protection" according to the Spurs boss.

"It's better to avoid risk. I think he's OK and I'm sure he's going to make the national team," Pochettino added.

England host Germany at Wembley on Friday, 10 November and play Brazil at the same venue the following Tuesday.

Tottenham's next game after the international break is the north London derby at Arsenal on Saturday, 18 November (kick-off 12:30 GMT).

"Dele felt his tendon after the Manchester United game and played 90 minutes against Real Madrid," Pochettino said.

"It's a very small thing. We think he can make Arsenal."

Alli has scored seven goals in 16 appearances for Spurs this season, including four in his last four games, and has two goals in 22 games for England since making his debut in 2015.

Is it only me that is sick to death of International breaks. I wouldn't mind but it matter a toss when we get to the finals, we'll be useless. Those under 17 lads did really well with attacking football but wait 'til Southgate shows the wingers how to support their fullbacks and make sure they track back. No more International breaks we are not interested.

Footballers today are all teddy Bears one small injury and you don't see them for ages just as well they don't have to work for a living .......

Spurs have greater priorities than releasing top players for friendlies which should be used to give young blood a chance. We need Kane, Winks and Alli fit for the PL and Champions league challenge.

absolutely pointless to have friendlies some 7 months before WC any number of things can change in that period such as injuries and form. Better served getting a group of 30 or so players together for some team building exersise and giving the players 2 weeks much needed rest, but of course the F.A won't make any money and that is all the old suits care about.

On the one hand its a shame for England that they lose excellent players. Spurs were shattered today think Winks got an injury as well?. I need the international break for my team to recover their strength. Players are not machines. Come the end of the season a few rested will be better for England anyway. How many tournaments have England turned up looking spent?

THFC are virtually the England team and the future of the team (Southgate knows it even if all the plastics on here are too thick to get it) so let THFC decide if pointless international friendlies hinder the club and decide to do something about it.

No big loss, Southgate knows what Alli brings to team and seems to be nailed on first time starter, these friendies need to be used to look at fringe/backup players. Hart, Walker, Kane, Alli don't need to play, the likes of Vardy, Rashford, Butland and Trippier need to play whilst trying to sort out a working combo for central defence and midfield

Still a very young player, and will be a big player for England during the next decade.
Will suffer the same curse of many other top English players though, under-appreciated by a good percentage of 'supporters' due to petty club rivalries.

Great news, hopefully winks, tripper, Dier and Kane withdraw too. Gives the spurs boys a break. Alderweireld, Lloris, Dele all having a nice rest, and not being involved in pointless friendlies.
