Everton defender Michael Keane has been called into the England squad for the friendlies against Germany and Brazil.

Keane returned from a foot infection to play in the 3-2 win over Watford on Sunday and has been added after the withdrawal of midfielder Dele Alli.

Alli missed Tottenham's win over Crystal Palace on Sunday with a hamstring injury.

England host Germany at Wembley on Friday and then play Brazil at the same venue on 14 November.

Spurs striker Harry Kane and midfielder Harry Winks are to be "further assessed by their club before joining up with England", says the Football Association.

The pair required treatment during the 1-0 win over Palace, with Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino saying Winks, who went off at half-time, had twisted his ankle.

Kane received treatment on his knee in the first half and was substituted on 77 minutes for "protection", according to Pochettino.

Chelsea centre-back Gary Cahill, who helped his side beat Manchester United on Sunday, will also be assessed by his club before joining up with the national team.

Midfielder Jordan Henderson missed Liverpool's victory over West Ham with a thigh problem but is due to arrive at St George's Park later in the week.

    As an Evertonian for over 50 yrs I find the call up of Keane a joke.He's been totally out his depth this season,

    Same goes for sideways or backwards Henderson, not good enough Im afraid however, included in the squad although injured,

    If Henderson plays I for one want be watch Friday or any other day whilst he plays.
    He's so negative and boring and not up too international class

    I wish people would stop slagging off our national manager. His pedigree speaks for itself. Managed Boro... took them down to the Championship... got sacked... took the England U21's to Euro finals and came bottom of the group.. the end. Now that's what you call a pedigree and sound basis for him to manage England.. stop the World Cup, I want to get off.....

    Amazing how many Spurs players are going to miss out through injury and have a good rest instead, after further assessment you can guarantee they will pull out.

    Southgate is a complete clown. Keane has been getting shocking reviews from Everton fans this season - he's been rubbish.

    Meanwhile, Lewis Dunk has been the cornerstone of a mean Brighton defence that is the principle reason behind their current top half position.

    Same old same old - Southgate is as insipid, bland and clueless as most of his predecessors unfortunately.

    He's been shocking so far for everton, how his form justifies an England inclusion is beyond me.
    Southgate seems such a limp wristed yes man; I can't see him taking England past the 2nd round of the WC, at best.

    I'm more interested in when the FA will start cracking down on the number if 'injuries' that players sustain immediately before an international break. Its becoming a joke.

    Keane called up because Alli is injured.

    I'd have thought that giving a similar player a chance rather than another defender that won't actually start the game and probably won't play would have been a better option?

    Re 2 Keane has to go at that pace to keep up with the rest of your defence. He was excellent at Burnley where he received proper coaching.

    Attacking midfielder pulls out so a central defender who's form is not existent replaces him. Foden from the under 17's looked good enough to me!!

    Why replace an attacking midfielder with a centre back? It makes no sense at all. Especially as Alli is one of the few flair players we possess. I agree that Demarai Gray deserved a call up. But I suppose he doesn't play a 'fashionable' enough club.

    Keane is the classic example for what I have said for years. Yes, you have quality defender, bad defenders (and GKs) and everything inbetween but their reputation is largely down to the coach/manager's tactics and ability to organise them as a defensive unit. Keane looked better than he is under Dyche at Burnley IMO. Now at Everton, he looks poor. The truth is somewhere in the middle.
