Injury-plagued England midfielder Jack Wilshere expects to sign a new Arsenal contract in the coming weeks.

The 25-year-old, whose current deal expires at the end of the season, has made 15 appearances this season, having returned from a calf injury in August.

He spent last season on loan at fellow Premier League side Bournemouth

"I definitely want to be here. I want to help Arsenal get to where they should be," Wilshere, who made his Gunners debut in 2008, told Sky Sports.

"We just have to sort things out and I'm sure that will happen in the next couple of weeks and it will be sorted."

Wilshere has started two league games for Arsenal this season, including Saturday's 1-0 win over Newcastle United.

He is chasing a recall to the England team for the 2018 World Cup having received support from Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger last month.

"I think I've proved to myself that I can play in the Premier League and I trust my body again and that I can affect games. I can have a positive effect on this team and then maybe we'll see if the England manager picks me," he said.

Wilshere won the last of his 34 England caps at Euro 2016 in the last 16 defeat by Iceland.

England manager Gareth Southgate has insisted Wilshere cannot be included if he is not playing regularly for Arsenal.

2014-15, started 7 England matches in a row. Was MotM 6-times.
The best teams always have a diminutive technical playmaker. David Silva, Crisitan Eriksen. OK Wilshere is not in that class, but England don't have any better technical midfielders. Who do you want alongside Dele Alli? Henderson? Delph? give me a break, if he stays fit then Wilshere is the man for England even if not for Arsenal.

A fit Jack Wilshere is an outstanding midfield player who is technically and tactically gifted. He has a sublime touch and can pass a ball with absolute perfection. I hope Arsenal give him a new contract and he get a good run injury free.

Scholes was spot on a couple years ago when he said Wilshere looked no better a player than when he was 19. Yes, he has had injuries. But when that happens, I always look at the player's lifestyle/attitude first, before blaming the environment. This case - it's him. The lad smokes, drinks and has partied away. Another Rooney. Finds himself at Bournemouth and only now decides to wake up. A waste.

Jack is always injured. He's even injured for the photo at the top of the page, he only has half an arm.

"Can't be selected for England unless playing regularly for his club" said Gutless Southgate but that doesn't apply to others especially Joe Hart who could go all season not playing club football and still get selected for England!! What a complete JOKE the England football team is almost as much as its current Yes Manager.

I think he should be begging AFC for a new contract. blue sky thinking I would love to know how much money he has cost % per game over the last 4 years. yes he has been unlucky with injury's but still premier league football is no charity. and he owes so much to AFC for sticking by him.

When fit there is no better (English) passer of the ball in the Premier league. At least he always looks to pass forward rather than so many midfielders whose first choice is backwards - so frustrating.
He deserves a new contract at Arsenal. If he can keep fit he should be a certainty for England ...if.

there is no way he will get a 90 grand a week contract. not even AFC with a transfer budget of third world debt would except this. he has one of the worst injury records over the last 7 years. he will sign what ever they put in front of him. he could not even get into the Bournemouth team in the end before he got o yes injured again. he has so much to give but not worth 90 grand a week .

sorry I just read on here that he is a better player in all area's than frank the lamp & Stevi G . not sure what game you have been watching or not watching to be fair. yes I think Wilshire *when fit ???????* is a great player but not in the same football park in all football area's. I am no LFC or CFC fan but lets keep it real. wetting myself with that post of him being better than the above.

Managers need to be able to have trust in their players off the field as well as on it. On it to produce performances at the highest level week in week out. And off it to have the intelligence to stay off the back pages and act like a professional sportsman every day not just for a couple of months before the contracts up. For me a bit like Sturridge at LFC he would be on his way.

He does not merit a new contract, especially at 90k per week!

112 EPL games and six goals since 2008.

eleven games per season and half a goal! not acceptable.

Spend his wages on young players that will look after themselves, he has had his chances.

Time to go.

Couldn't even get in the Bournemouth team....

I'm not sure Jack Wilshire will ever be able to be the potential he was supposed to. Bad lifestyle off the pitch is what has ruined his career and it's the same for many and most of the naturally talented players in England.

The game moves so fast these days that if you miss out for long periods its hard to get back up to speed.

Wish him well though cause on his day he is brilliant.

Overhyped but undoubtedly talented. Would he get near City's - or even United's - starting XI? No way.
