Aaron Lennon: Burnley agree deal to sign Everton winger

Burnley have agreed a deal with Everton to sign winger Aaron Lennon for an undisclosed fee.

The 30-year-old, who is surplus to requirements at Goodison Park following the arrival of Theo Walcott, still needs to have a medical, but personal terms have been agreed.

Lennon joined Everton from Tottenham in 2015 and has scored seven goals in 63 appearances.

The former England international has played 19 games this season.

The second half of the 2016-17 campaign was disrupted for Lennon after he was detained by police in May under the Mental Health Act over concerns for his welfare.

Speaking shortly after returning for pre-season training in July, he said he had received "incredible" support from "Everton, Spurs, their fans, football fans and concerned members of the general public".

He has provided two assists in the 19 appearances he has made for the Toffees in all competitions this term.

Everton have here managed to sell a better version of Theo Walcott and replace him with Theo Walcott.

As a Spurs fan I will always be a fan of Lennon for his great service to our club. But after facing his recent issues I wish him even more success at Burnley.

Think this is a better signing for Burnly than Walcott is for Everton.

Lennon is rapid and in fairness he works hard for the team and can defend. I thought when Coleman got injured he might of had a run at right back, but Kenny has been class apart from last weekend. Good luck Aaron 👍

Gauranteed Sean Dyche will have done good business with Everton. Lennon still is a great player and Dyche will get the best out of him and make him feel part of the Burnley team.

He got a tremendous ovation from Spurs fans at Wembley when Big Sam gave him half an hour for Everton when they were already 3 goals behind! I hope he does really well for Burnley who will appreciate him. Let's face it he's joining a top ten club with a good manager having a fine season. Never made the best of what he has so far.

Lennon is (or at least was) an exciting player to watch. Very quick (which Burnley are lacking up front). Good signing for Burnley and hope he does well there, good on him for (probably) taking a pay cut for regular football.
