Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is delighted to have signed Filipe Luis from Atletico Madrid, as it puts his work in this summer’s transfer window to an end, according to BBC Sport.

The Blues made the Brazilian left-back their third major signing of the summer after also bringing in Spanish pair Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas, addressing three key areas of the squad that needed strengthening.

And despite various transfer rumours linking the club to other players, Mourinho now says he is pleased to have got the signings he wants done and dusted early on.

“We finished the market today,” said Mourinho. “The transfer market closes 31 August and we close on July 19.

“My club did a fantastic job, not just because of what we bought, but because we did it in almost record time.”

This could give rivals Arsenal a real boost in the pursuit of Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira, who has also been strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.

There has been speculation that the Gunners have been unable to reach an agreement over a contract for the German World Cup winner, but they can at least be comforted that there will not be too much in the way of competition from Chelsea as hope to revive a deal.

This could also benefit other clubs, such as Manchester City as they eye new defenders, with Chelsea also being linked with one of their main targets, Eliaquim Mangala.
