Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has explained why he dropped Wojciech Szczesny for the Gunners’ match against Stoke City and replaced him with David Ospina, reports Goal.com.

There had been allegations that the Pole had been dropped for an incident in which he was caught smoking in the showers after the North London club’s 2-0 defeat to Southampton. However, the Frenchman has refuted those claims, and explained why he made the big call.
The 24-year-old also made mistakes in both of the goals conceded against the Saints, and the 65-year-old has said that it is this poor form that has led to his departure from the starting XI as well as fatigue. The good performance of replacement David Ospina against Hull City in the FA Cup was also taken in to account in the decision.
“He [Ospina] deserved to play again,” Wenger told Sky Sports. “A good opportunity as well. Szczesny has played many games and to have a look at Ospina as well. Not discipline, no. You look only at form and performance and sometimes fatigue as well. Sometimes they [goalkeepers] need a breather as well.”
The Gunners are currently sixth in the Premier League and will be looking for a run of victories in order to get back in to the top four and the Champions League qualification places.
