Arsenal injury news: Mesut Ozil returning to Arsenal vs Barcelona after missing FA Cup draw

Posted by

Mesut Ozil was a surprise scratch from Arsenal’s FA Cup fixture against Hull City – a match that resulted in a scoreless draw. Though it was revealed that Ozil’s absence was due to an illness as opposed to any sort of injury, there was still the thought that he might miss the Gunners’ match against Barcelona in the Champions League. Luckily, Arsene Wenger was quick to quash those rumours.

In his post-match interview [per the Metro], Wenger revealed that he rested Ozil due to a cold and added that he expects the Arsenal assist-wizard to return to health in time for the big match against Barcelona.

‘I rested Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil completely,’ Wenger said.

‘Ozil was a bit sick during the week and I decided to leave him completely out.

‘It was a cold, nothing major.’

Ozil dominates the assist statistic with an incredible 17 – all in the Premier League – to go along with his four BPL goals and two Champions League goals. He has a goal and an assist over his last two appearances and is considered a contender for PFA Premier League Player of the Season.
