Arsenal make huge breakthrough in contract talks, £225k-a-week deal set to be signed

Arsenal are reportedly confident that they’ve made a major breakthrough in contract talks with Mesut Ozil, with terms possibly being agreed on a new deal.

Speculation over the futures of the likes of Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have dominated Arsenal headlines for months, with several key players in the last 12 months of their current contracts.

However, according to The Sun, Ozil’s situation could be on the verge of being cleared up as it’s claimed that the German international has given the Gunners the impression that he’s ready to accept a new contract offer worth £225,000-a-week to commit his future to the club.

Arsene Wenger has remained confident throughout that none of his stars would be leaving, and it seems as though he’ll be proven right with Ozil at least as the report adds that there hasn’t been any concrete interest from around Europe given the figures being demanded by the 28-year-old.

Fears have been growing that those individuals named above could be at risk of leaving for nothing in a year’s time, but Arsenal will hope that they will all be convinced to put pen to paper during the course of the upcoming campaign.

Ozil is expected to feature against Leicester City in the season opener on Friday night, and he may well be on the verge of handing the north London giants a timely boost with confirmation that he’s ready to commit his future.

Naturally, the wait will go on until it’s officially announced, but it’s always been felt as though the former Real Madrid man would be the easier task out of the group in question to persuade to sign a new deal, especially with no real competition for his signature emerging.

That has seemingly now come to fruition, and all concerned at Arsenal will certainly be hoping that Sanchez follows suit in the coming weeks, as his future is undoubtedly the more complicated of the two.
