The transfer saga surrounding Ross Barkley seems to have taken another turn this summer, with Chelsea having reportedly lodged a bid of £25M to try and secure a move for the England international, according to the Telegraph.

Chelsea, who had also lodged a £35M bid for Arsenal star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as per the Telegraph, have set their sights on Barkley with just days left in the transfer window, with the Blues looking to secure a cut-price deal for the midfielder who Everton originally valued at £50M.

Chelsea face competition from London rivals Tottenham in the race to sign Barkley this summer, with Everton hoping Mauricio Pochettino’s side come in for the England international in order to drive the player’s price up, as per the Telegraph.

Chelsea are very eager to get a deal agreed for Barkley before Thursday’s deadline despite the player currently sitting on the sidelines with a hamstring injury and only having 11 months left on his current Toffees deal, as reported by the Telegraph, with the Blues not being put off by the player’s injury as they believe signing Barkley could prove to be a real bargain in the not too distant future.

Should Chelsea manage to get Barkley for the cut-price fee of £25M, it’ll surely be sen as a step in the right director by Blues fans, as the club look to planning for the distant future with their pursuit of the 23-year-old midfielder.
