Chelsea chiefs condemn fans following win over Leicester, club’s supporters reportedly sang anti-Semitic chants during match

Chelsea have condemned their supporters following their 2-1 win away at Leicester City on Saturday, after reports emerged that Blues fans indulged in anti-Semitic chants during the match, according to the Sun.

Within hours of the game finishing, Chelsea chiefs were urging fans to leave the chant in the past, as it contained offensive, anti-Semitic connotations within it, as per the Sun.

Morata, who joined the club from Real Madrid during the summer, opened the scoring in his side’s 2-1 win over the Foxes, with N’Golo Kante bagging the other. However, the win was tainted by the away side’s travelling fans, as the Chelsea supporters sang “Morata, whoa, Morata, whoa. He came from Real Madrid, he hates the f*cking Y**s.”

Since reports of these chants have emerged, the west London club have condemned their fans’ use of the song, with Chelsea’s Head of Communications Steve Atkins saying after the match that “I don’t think Antonio was aware of the song. The club and the players appreciate the fans’ passionate support away from home. But the language in that song is not acceptable at all.”

Atkins also went on to add that the club had “spoken to Alvaro after the game and he does not want to be connected with that song in any way and both the club and the player request the supporters stop singing that song with immediate effect.”

Despite the controversy surrounding the away fans and their chanting, Chelsea still managed to secure their third win of the season, however Antonio Conte’s side were made to hang on towards the end of the game, as the home side pulled a goal back in the 62nd minute through a Jamie Vardy penalty.

Should Chelsea fans indulge in chanting of this manor again, it’ll be worthwhile keeping an eye on what the club decide to do about it, and whether the FA decide to get involved to try and put a stop to it happening again in the future, as a chant like this is one that just simply isn’t ok.
