Liverpool team news: Huge headache for Klopp over duo but big LFC boost for Leicester clash

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp reportedly has defensive headaches ahead of the Premier League clash with Leicester City on Saturday evening.

The Reds fell to defeat to Leicester in the League Cup in midweek, and so they’ll be hoping that their second visit to the King Power Stadium this week is a happier occasion.

According to The Liverpool Echo though, Klopp will potentially have some selection troubles as both Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren both sat out training on Thursday and the first-choice centre-half pairing are running out of time to prove their fitness.

The latter may not be such a big miss given the reaction to his recent performances and costly mistakes, but Klopp undoubtedly still has faith in him and the rest of the squad as they come under fire for their recent displays and results.

It remains to be seen whether or not the defensive duo can recover in time with Joe Gomez and Ragnar Klavan likely to be on standby, which probably won’t fill Liverpool fans with too much confidence either, especially in the latter’s case.

However, there is some good news too for Klopp as the report adds that Emre Can has been passed fit for the encounter as he returned to full training at Melwood on Thursday afternoon and has now seemingly fully recovered from a knock he sustained against Burnley last weekend.

Liverpool will be out to end a four-game winless streak in all competitions, but it won’t be easy as Leicester will be buoyed by their win in the League Cup and will be looking to pile further misery on the Merseyside giants.
