Marcos Alonso has stated that while he is happy at Chelsea he believes his future is not at Stamford Bridge. The left wing-back has noted that a move to the Spanish league La Liga is where he ideally wants to be playing his football before the end of his career.

The Chelsea wingback told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser: “”I’m very happy at Chelsea but I would like to return to play in Spain one day.”

Alonso went on to add, “Obviously, before I retire I would like to play in La Liga because I haven’t played much there.”

The Spanish star started his career in Spain gradually moving through the ranks at Real Madrid before moving to England to join Bolton Wanderers in 2010. Alonso spent three years in the Midlands before moving to Italian club Fiorentina in 2013. It was here where a loan spell to Sunderland in 2014 caught the eye of Chelsea who acquired the star in 2016.

Alonso was instrumental in Chelsea’s title winning campaign last season and was an essential part of Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 formation, which was arguably the most crucial tactical decision in the Blues’ title win.

The Spaniard made 31 appearances in the Premier League last season losing just three of those 31 fixtures. The star has also established himself as a goalscoring threat from both open play and dead-ball situations scoring six goals from a wing-back position last year.

Alonso has quickly established himself as one of the most impressive defenders in world football and his recent comments are sure to have turned the heads of numerous Spanish clubs.
