Good news for Chelsea, upcoming Champions League rivals have serious injury headache

While they may have their own injury problems, Chelsea will be buoyed by the fact that Roma suffered a major setback of their own at the weekend.

The two sides meet at Stamford Bridge in the Champions League on Wednesday night, and Antonio Conte has headaches of his own to consider with Victor Moses limping off against Crystal Palace while N’Golo Kante and Alvaro Morata were already missing.

Patrik Schick, Kevin Strootman, Gregoire Defrel, Emerson Palmieri were all missing against Napoli at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday night, but Kostas Manolas has now joined them on the injury list.

The 26-year-old is widely regarded as one of the top centre-halves in Serie A and has been an almost ever-present for Eusebio Di Francesco so far this season.

In turn, losing him to what looked like a groin problem will be a huge blow for Roma, while that does open up a real opportunity for Chelsea to take advantage of next week.

Former Tottenham defender Federico Fazio came on to replace Manolas on Saturday, and he immediately had issues trying to deal with Dries Mertens.

Combine him with Juan Jesus in the heart of the Roma defence, and the lack of pace and mobility could be a perfect chance for Chelsea to really attack them and claim all three points in their showdown.

Chelsea currently sit top of Group C with six points from their two games, with Roma in second place and two points adrift.
