Arsenal could now actively seek sale in January amid £350k-a-week contract demands

There’s no denying that Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil is a top player who possesses real quality and is considered one of the best players in Europe.

However, things haven’t gone smoothly for him at the Emirates in recent times, and with his current contract set to expire in July, real doubts have built up over his long-term future with the Gunners.

While he has struggled for form this season, it has been an ongoing issue for frustrated Arsenal fans despite the fact that he’s registered 23 goals and 45 assists in 122 Premier League games since arriving at the club in 2013.

The German international simply hasn’t been consistent or influential enough to end the wait for major trophies at the club, and if he isn’t having a positive impact on a game from an offensive perspective, he has been heavily criticised on plenty of occasions for his lack of work ethic and effort defensively.

Arsenal can ill-afford to carry a luxury like that as they look set for another battle to make the top four in the Premier League, and it looks as though they’re ready to cut their losses in January, as per The Mirror, who suggest that they will look to find a buyer in the new year.

It’s noted that an agreement between the two parties is unlikely given that the offer put on the table is a contract worth £275,000-a-week, while Ozil has suggested that he wants £350,000-a-week which is a pretty sizeable gap.

In turn, if Arsenal believe that an agreement is unlikely then they’d be sensible to cash in during the January transfer window for what they can get, rather than lose the World Cup winner for nothing in the summer.

Losing Ozil will still hurt as he’s a big-name player, but ultimately it’s surely in the best interests of Arsenal to get some kind of fee for him in January and move on, as it’s arguably more than a coincidence that they enjoyed a good run of form in his absence prior to his return in the defeat at Watford last weekend.
