Good move by the Liverpool manager?

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is reportedly ready to make a drastic change to his back line in his attempt to replace the out-of-form Dejan Lovren.

The Croatian defender was dragged off by Klopp on the half-hour mark against Tottenham on Sunday, with the Reds 2- down after just 12 minutes due to two sloppy errors from the centre-back.

According to the Daily Mirror, Liverpool now plan to give youngster Joe Gomez an extended run of games in the middle to help phase Lovren out, despite the 20-year-old normally playing as a full-back.

Still, drastic times call for drastic measures and it seems Klopp wants to come up with a better long-term plan for his central defence than to rely on either Lovren or experienced backup player Ragnar Klavan.

Liverpool have the statistically worst defence away from home in the Premier League this season, having conceded four to Spurs at the weekend and five to Manchester City earlier in the campaign.

In fact, of all teams currently occupying the top 15 places in the league table, only Watford (17) have let in more than Liverpool (16) this term.

Gomez will certainly need to hit the ground running in his new role if that is the way Klopp decides to reshuffle his pack defensively.

Liverpool take on Huddersfield Town at Anfield this weekend and will be confident of getting back to winning ways, despite David Wagner’s side earning an impressive 2-1 win over Manchester United last week.
