Mystery unsolved for Man Utd as concern grows over stalwart, Mourinho woes go on

Man Utd midfielder Michael Carrick has been limited to just one appearance so far this season, and reports claim he’s no closer to making a return.

It’s a blow for Jose Mourinho as the Man Utd boss is also without Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini currently, which is leaving him thin in midfield in a busy period in the season.

However, the bigger concern is that according to The Sun, there is no suggestion that the United medical staff are any closer to identifying what is troubling Carrick after he felt unwell following the win over Burton Albion in the League Cup.

The 36-year-old has now been out for a month after he continued to struggle with the problem in training, and evidently he will not return until the club are content that these troubles are behind him.

Given his age and the fact that his current contract expires at the end of the season, fears will be growing over whether or not he’ll be able to enjoy and make a decent impact in what could be his last campaign at Old Trafford after a glittering spell in Manchester which has seen him win five Premier League titles and the Champions League among many other trophies.

Despite being in the latter stages of his career, Carrick has continued to play an important role for Mourinho when selected, and the Portuguese tactician would undoubtedly love to call upon him now with the pressure on Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic to produce consistently.

It’s hoped that Carrick is able to put these troubles behind him sooner rather than later, but ultimately the indications so far aren’t good and it’s concerning that he still hasn’t been able to return after a month which arguably suggests that something isn’t quite right.
