Arsenal linked with top-class midfield solution in January, Wenger willing to be patient

Arsenal are reportedly considering a move to bolster their midfield options, and based on this report, they’re certainly looking in the right place.

Although Arsene Wenger has plenty of options in that department with the likes of Granit Xhaka, Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Mohamed Elneny and Francis Coquelin to name but a few, he has lacked that bit of grit and class in the middle that’s been missing for a number of years.

In turn, as reported by talkSPORT, Napoli midfielder Jorginho has emerged on his transfer radar, and the 25-year-old could be a target for January although Wenger is said to be willing to wait until next summer if he has to in order to land the midfield ace.

Jorginho joined Napoli in 2013, and has been a consistent presence in their side over the last three seasons while taking his game to the next level under Maurizio Sarri as the Partenopei begin to seriously contend for the Serie A title.

In turn, the Italian giants will undoubtedly be keen to keep hold of their prized asset, as it will be difficult to replace what he offers the team in terms of defensive coverage, energy and technical quality to go with an excellent range of passing as he keeps them ticking in the middle.

With Santi Cazorla continuing to struggle with injuries, Jorginho would be a quality addition to the Arsenal squad to offer something different in midfield, and although they’ll likely face a real battle to convince Napoli to sell, it would be an impressive signing if they managed to pull it off.
