Man Utd to break club policy as desperate to keep £130k-a-week star

Man Utd seemingly value one member of their current senior squad so much that they could reportedly depart from club policy to secure his future.

Jose Mourinho hasn’t been shy in publicly discussing how important Marouane Fellaini has been to him since he arrived at Old Trafford, as evidenced by the Manchester Evening News, and he has certainly valued his contribution very highly.

The 29-year-old made 47 appearances in all competitions last season to prove that, while he bagged four goals in just eight appearances earlier this season before picking up an ankle injury on international duty last month.

While he’s on the sidelines, it seems as though his future has become a talking point again, especially given that he’s out of contract at the end of the season and there has been no suggestion publicly at least that he’s set to sign a renewal any time soon.

According to The Sun though, there could be a surprise development in the matter with the suggestion that United are willing to make an exception to their policy of not offering more than one-year deals to players aged 30 or over.

Fellaini will reach that magic number later this month and would seemingly be only in line to get an additional year in his renewal. However, it’s reported that United are willing to offer him a two-year contract worth £130,000-a-week in order to avoid losing him on a free next summer and to keep him as a fundamental part of Mourinho’s squad.

It remains to be seen whether or not that’s enough to convince him to stay, but it’s questionable as to whether he’ll find a better deal elsewhere, a manager who shows as much faith in him as Mourinho does and an environment that offers him such a great opportunity to win major trophies. That seems like a lot to be turning down if he chooses to leave Man Utd.
