Arsenal or Liverpool – who will he choose?

Arsenal are reportedly ready to rival Liverpool in the battle to seal the transfer of a big name who currently wants out of Real Madrid.

According to Diario Gol, goalkeeper Keylor Navas is unhappy with life at the Bernabeu, where he feels under-appreciated, and he could head to the Premier League as his next move.

The Costa Rica international has proven himself to be one of the finest ‘keepers in Europe on his day, though he is perhaps not the big name many at Real Madrid will have had in mind to replace a club legend like Iker Casillas.

Navas became Real’s number one when Casillas left Real in 2015, but it seems he continues to struggle to win over many at the club, as well as media and pundits around the club.

Diario Gol recently reported Liverpool were interested in Navas as an upgrade on the out-of-form Simon Mignolet, and the same source now names Arsenal as potential suitors.

The Gunners could do with bringing in a long-term replacement for Petr Cech, who has not looked the top class player he once was since sealing his move from rivals Chelsea back in 2015.

Cech will turn 36 at the end of this season and had another questionable performance in Arsenal’s defeat to Manchester City yesterday, conceding his 13th goal from 13 penalties faced at the club.

Once a truly world class shot-stopper, Cech no longer looks at the required level to provide the stability needed at the back for Arsenal as they look to get back to being among the main challengers for the Premier League title.

Arsene Wenger’s pursuit of Navas would reflect that, and Diario Gol suggest the 30-year-old could be available as Madrid president Florentino Perez remains obsessed with signing Manchester United ‘keeper David de Gea.
