Liverpool braced for shock £48million bid for star player in January transfer window

Liverpool face surprise interest in in-form winger Mohamed Salah from Atletico Madrid in the upcoming January transfer window, according to reports in Spain.

The Egypt international has settled in well at Anfield since joining from Roma in the summer transfer window, but the Reds may now have cause to worry about him making a speedy exit.

According to Gol Digital, Atletico are looking to invest up front in the winter after an unconvincing start to the season, with Salah one of their priority targets.

The report claims Simeone is prepared to pay around £48million for Salah, who could be an upgrade on the likes of Yannick Carrasco, or even Antoine Griezmann, who isn’t firing so far this term.

ESPN recently suggested Manchester United could also be back in for Griezmann in the summer, so it may be that Atletico are thinking ahead by targeting Salah from Liverpool.

The 25-year-old has 12 goals in 17 games for Liverpool so far this season, and looks like he could be an ideal like-for-like replacement for Griezmann were he to move on.

Salah also reached double figures for goals in his two seasons with Roma, so doesn’t look like he’d have too much trouble reaching similarly prolific form in La Liga.

Liverpool, however, would surely not entertain the thought of letting their star player go so early, particularly with ongoing speculation over Philippe Coutinho’s Anfield future.
