Arsenal prepare shock transfer swoop for in-form Manchester United star

Arsenal are reportedly lining up a surprise swoop to sign Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini on a free transfer in the summer.

Arsene Wenger seems to be a fan of the Belgium international, who could prove a bargain addition for a number of top sides as he seems set to snub any offers of a new contract at Old Trafford.

Despite not usually being first choice at United, Fellaini has impressed whenever used this season, and was establishing himself as one of Jose Mourinho’s most trusted performers before his injury.

According to the Daily Express, Arsenal are among the clubs looking into snapping him up, in a move that is likely to frustrate Mourinho hugely.

Wenger and Mourinho have a long-standing personal rivalry, and Fellaini could add just the kind of work-rate and battling qualities that the Portuguese values so highly and that the Gunners have lacked for so long.

Whilst hardly the best midfield player in the Premier League, the experienced 29-year-old adds plenty of steel and a physical presence that would set him apart from a number of Arsenal’s current options in that position.

Sky Sports claimed earlier today that United would not look to sell Fellaini in January despite him being free to negotiate with foreign clubs from then and arrange a departure on a free for next season.
