Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that striker Olivier Giroud is set to miss this weekend’s game against Tottenham through injury.

The France international’s knock has been described as only ‘short-term’, but he won’t be ready in time to take on Spurs in Saturday’s North London Derby.

‘Giroud picked up an injury, I don’t think he will be available,’ Wenger is quoted in the Daily Mirror.

‘It’s short term, we have to assess him on Monday.’

This could be good news for Alexandre Lacazette, despite Wenger also refusing to confirm if he’d have a place in the starting XI at the Emirates Stadium this weekend.

‘He played many games Lacazette,’ Wenger is quoted in the Daily Mirror. ‘Will he start on Saturday? The decision has not been made.’

Giroud only has one Premier League goal this season, and is yet to start a single league match for Wenger’s side.
