Arsenal are reportedly ready to rival the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City for the transfer of Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka as he looks set to become available on a free.
The Germany international appears no closer to extending his contract with Schalke, whom Arsenal also raided this summer as they brought in another contract rebel in Sead Kolasinac.
According to the Daily Mirror, Arsene Wenger now seems set to try that same trick again with a move for the highly-rated Goretzka, who continues to show himself to be one of the top young players in Europe.
Arsenal could do with improving in midfield after some inconsistent performances from the likes of Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey this season, and Goretzka would be a fine addition on a free.

Still, Liverpool, City and European giants such as Juventus and Bayern Munich also appear to be in the running.
Arsenal have a strong German contingent at the Emirates Stadium, though Mesut Ozil is currently also heading towards the end of his contract.
If he were to leave, Goretzka is also capable of playing a more advanced creative midfield role, so could save Arsenal a fortune in terms of replacing their star playmaker.
