Ex-Tottenham ace reveals not-so-secret Danny Rose conversation after north London derby snub

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino caused a stir last weekend with his decision to leave Danny Rose out of his squad for the clash with Arsenal.

The 27-year-old has been working his way back after a lengthy nine-month injury layoff, and was left out of the squad for the north London derby to continue training and build up his fitness.

Having started in the impressive 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, it seems as though it was a smart decision from Pochettino, who spoke after the game and addressed the Rose situation,.

However, Jermaine Jenas has revealed the details of a conversation he shared with the England international.

“I spoke to Danny and I know he was very disappointed not to be involved in the squad on Saturday,” he told BT Sport, as reported by The Express.

“He thought he was fit, but that’s just natural. At the same time, it’s the manager’s decision and you look at the performance he put in tonight, it looks like Pochettino was right.”

While it’s understandable as to why Rose would have been disappointed to miss out on such a big game, ultimately Pochettino would have made the decision with a view of his fitness levels for what was a crucial encounter.

The Express note that speculation of a move to Man Utd continues to loiter in the background, and so such a decision was always going to reignite rumours over his future at Tottenham.

Nevertheless, Rose was back in the team on Tuesday night in Germany, and as he continues to get sharper and play more consistently, it would be no surprise to see him become a regular in the side moving forward with the ‘controversy’ of his snub last weekend quickly becoming a distant memory.
