Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho has assembled a strong squad at Old Trafford, but there are arguably a couple of positions in which he could strengthen still.
Despite the return of Marcos Rojo from injury, the left-back position could be one such department to address next year as he could benefit from having a long-term and reliable option.
The lack of hasn’t adversely affected United so far this season given that they boast the best defensive record in the Premier League having conceded just six goals in 12 games, but it’s certainly worth considering.
Unfortunately for the Red Devils though, it doesn’t looks as though a move for their primary target will come to fruition in January.
According to The Times, a £40m bid to sign Tottenham’s Danny Rose will fail as the 27-year-old has outlined his intention to stay with Mauricio Pochettino’s side until the end of the season.
While the situation could change next summer, it’s arguably quite a surprise considering all the speculation in recent months, as noted in the report, particularly after Rose’s public rant last summer.
The decision to leave him out of the squad for the north London derby against Arsenal last weekend seemingly sparked fresh talk of an exit, but Rose has moved to calm that down too as per the Times as he continues to work on his fitness after a lengthy injury layoff.
It sounds as though he’s committed to Tottenham until the end of the season at least, and so Man Utd can either choose to look elsewhere in January, or wait for the summer to launch a new bid to sign the England international.
With Rojo back, coupled with the likes of Ashley Young, Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind available to fill in and play that role too, there doesn’t seem to be too much need to rush for a new signing and so Mourinho may well choose to be patient.
