Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has established himself as one of the most prolific strikers in Europe, and now Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp reportedly fancies a reunion.
The 28-year-old’s goalscoring record in recent years makes for impressive reading, as he’s managed tallies of 25, 39 and 40 in the last three seasons.
Further, the Gabon international has already bagged 17 goals in 19 games so far this season, as he looks on course for another high-scoring campaign.
In turn, it’s no surprise that teams from around Europe are interested, with The Express reporting that Liverpool have joined Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd in the race to land his signature.
While his goalscoring rate can’t be argued with, Aubameyang’s attitude has been brought into question this season, especially after Dortmund opted to suspend him for disciplinary reasons last month, as noted by The Mirror.
Further, he was given his marching orders in the draw with rivals Schalke last weekend, and so it seems as though Dortmund could be willing to discuss an exit at the risk of further problems arising to sour the relationship further.
Klopp knows him well of course having been in charge of Dortmund between 2008 and 2015, signing Aubameyang in 2013 and helping him develop into the player that he is today.
It seems the German tactician is plotting changes to his squad, with the Express adding that Daniel Sturridge could make way for Aubameyang, while a goalkeeper and centre-half are also on Klopp’s agenda as he looks to strengthen his squad for the second half of the campaign.
Liverpool have been in fine form in recent weeks, winning six of their last eight games in all competitions.
Having scored 25 goals in that period, it doesn’t seem as if they need to add another forward to their line-up with Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane doing the damage. However, they’ve conceded 19 goals in 15 games in the league so far, giving them the joint-worst defensive record of the top seven sides, and so shoring things up at the back would surely make more sense in January.
