Man Utd team news: Six ruled out vs CSKA, key update on influential ace

Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho will be without a number of key players for their last group game of the Champions League in midweek.

The Red Devils host CSKA Moscow at Old Trafford on Tuesday night with a bit of work to do to qualify for the knockout stage as a point would rule out all doubt and seal safe passage.

In turn, Mourinho will look to put out a strong side to avoid the impossible becoming possible, although Nemanja Matic, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick and Zlatan Ibrahimovic set to be sidelined, as per freelance injury analyst Ben Dinnery in the tweets below.

As noted by The Independent, Matic was a doubt heading into the showdown with Arsenal at the weekend, but the Serbian international recovered to play a fundamental role in his side’s win at the Emirates.

However, it appears as though Mourinho doesn’t want to push him too hard and risk a setback, and in turn he will be left out against CSKA.

Perhaps that is with one eye on the Manchester derby on Sunday, with United taking on rivals Man City as they hope to chip away at the eight-point gap between the two clubs at the top of the Premier League table.

Nevertheless, before the focus can be switched to that game, Man Utd have to concentrate on the task at hand, and while it’s a blow to see the names below ruled out, it will give others an opportunity to step in and impress to display Mourinho’s strength in depth.

Meanwhile, Mourinho also provided an update on Ibrahimovic’s recovery, as the Swede returned to action for the first time this season last month, making four brief appearances before being left out against Arsenal.

As noted below, the Portuguese tactician is clearly easing the veteran back into it, as the last thing he needs is for him to suffer a costly setback.
