Manchester United look to have been dealt a major potential blow in their pursuit of the transfer of Tottenham attacking midfielder Dele Alli as Jorge Mendes gets himself involved.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Alli has switched to being represented by Mendes’ company Gestifute, and this has unsurprisingly led to speculation over where he might move next with these new connections.

Mendes has some of the most high-profile clients in the game at the moment, representing the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jose Mourinho.

According to Don Balon, Mendes is now making it his mission to get Alli to Real Madrid in the future, which could be a big blow for both Spurs and United.

Don Balon have previously claimed Jose Mourinho wants United to bid a much as £179million for the England international in order to see off competition from Real and Barcelona for his signature.

With 39 goals in 114 games for Tottenham from midfield, it’s little surprise to see the 21-year-old attracting so much interest from elite European sides as he looks set for a big future at the top level of the game.

United could do with that kind of quality in attack after being somewhat reliant on Romelu Lukaku for goals this season, but Tottenham would probably rather lose him to a foreign club than a Premier League rival.

Given Alli’s new links with Mendes, it seems that could end up leading to a move to Madrid if Don Balon’s latest claims are anything to go by.

The report claims that Alli could favour Real over Barca, who themselves may be leaning more towards signing Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho.
