Big boost for Arsenal ace, Wenger drops hint with huge vote of confidence

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has continued to impress in the Europa League, and Arsene Wenger has hinted at a bigger role for him moving forward.

The 25-year-old has made six appearances in the competition, playing every minute aside from the opening game against FC Koln back in September.

In that time, he’s scored once and provided two assists, but his overall play in the Arsenal midfield has seen him stand-out with many calling for him to play in the Premier League too.

However, Wenger has been a little more hesitant with that, with Wilshere limited to four outings and just 65 minutes to his name as he hasn’t been able to displace the competition for places.

After ending his long wait for a goal in the 6-0 rout over BATE Borisov on Thursday night, the England international may well have finally forced a re-think.

“Jack’s moving forward, and you could see tonight that he’s really ready now to play,” Wenger said, as per ESPN.

“He’s sharp, he’s quick, he’s incisive again with his dribble, and technically he was very good tonight. I would say for 70 minutes in the game he was dominant in midfield on the creative side. And that’s very good news for us.”

Time will tell if that’s a genuine indication that Wilshere will feature more prominently on a consistent basis in all competitions, but he’ll be desperate for that to happen with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.

Along with the likes of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, it’s a worrying time for Arsenal fans as they want key players to stay, and if Wilshere doesn’t secure a long-term future at the Emirates, his form in Europe this season will surely be attracting plenty of attention.
