Manchester United’s approach to today’s game against Manchester City has been branded ‘unacceptable’ by a number of pundits and fans on Twitter as the title now looks out of reach.
The Red Devils have often gone on the defensive in big games under Jose Mourinho, whose side managed just 35% possession against City this afternoon.
Playing into Pep Guardiola’s hands, City dominated and did plenty of damage with the ball, earning a 2-1 victory that many feel has ended this season’s title race as a contest.
The Sky Blues are now eleven points clear at the top of the table, and there is plenty of anger at Mourinho for his negativity with a club of United’s resources and proud history.
This may seem harsh given the slight luck element in both of City’s goals, but in fairness it’s easy to imagine they’d have found other ways of scoring if efforts from David Silva and Nicolas Otamendi hadn’t gone in.
35% possession at home has to be unacceptable for club as big, rich & powerful as Man United

Would love to know what Sir Alex would think of José’s tactics today. 35% possession at home. City were very good, I get that, but Manchester United were woeful. Directives given to players today bizarre and unacceptable. #MUFC

Lukaku fucking up for the second goal is not the source of the problem, allowing Man City, top of the league and local rivals, to have over 70% possession when they’re away from home is unacceptable. Pogba doesn’t change that issue either, negative tactics and stubbornness

25% possession at home is a total disgrace and unacceptable Jose

Unacceptable. Lukaku doesn’t turn up in big games, the formation doesn’t suit us, we can’t keep possession, too many gaps in midfield and we play FAR FAR too deep. The abysmal referee doesn’t help either. Should have been a red for Jesus (2 yellows).

Terrible mate. It’s unacceptable to be such a big club & have 35% possession at home! You deserve to lose with stats like that!!
