Arsenal injury news: Double blow for Wenger ahead of West Ham clash

Arsenal take on West Ham United at the London Stadium on Wednesday night, and Arsene Wenger has confirmed that he’ll be without two key players.

The Gunners were held to a draw by Southampton at the weekend in a disappointing result for them, as they continue to battle for a top-four finish this season.

With Chelsea losing to the Hammers while Liverpool were held by Everton, it was a perfect opportunity to get a boost while their direct rivals struggled, but they were unable to take advantage.

They’ll be hoping for a better result against West Ham, but they’ll have to do so without defender Skhodran Mustafi and midfielder Aaron Ramsey.

The German international limped out of the defeat to Man Utd with a thigh injury and hasn’t yet recovered, while Ramsey picked up a fresh setback of his own in the draw with the Saints at the weekend.

In more positive news, it sounds as though they’ll get Mustafi back for Newcastle at the weekend, which is much needed given the performance produced by veteran stalwart Per Mertesacker on Sunday as he struggled badly and was heavily criticised by supporters.

“Mustafi will not be back. We lost Ramsey against Southampton. He will not be available for tomorrow’s game,” he told the media, as reported by Sky Sports.

“[Mustafi will be out] a little bit longer. He’s out in training, running. The medical staff have decided that he’s not completely ready. Will he be ready for Saturday against Newcastle? Yes.”
