Bad news for Tottenham as Spurs boss confirms key ace set to be sidelined until February

Tottenham have been dealt a huge injury blow, after manager Mauricio Pochettino confirmed that key ace Toby Alderweireld is set to be out until February.

This is according to the Sun, who state that the Spurs boss confirmed that the Belgian international could be out for long enough to miss his side crucial clash against Juventus in the Champions League.

Speaking about the player’s injury, Pochettino said “We cannot change the reality. The reality is that he is injured and cannot play until February.”

Since arriving in north London from Spanish side Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2015, Alderweireld has seen himself become one of the best defenders in the league.

The player’s calmness on the ball and brilliant defensive positioning has seen some label the Belgian international as one of the best defenders in Europe.

In 103 appearances for the Lilywhites, the Belgian has managed to amass a total of three goals and six assists, a fairly average record for a centre back.

The player’s ability to form a partnership with fellow Belgian Jan Vertonghen has seen Spurs become one of the best defensive side’s in Europe these past few years.

Should Alderweireld end up missing Spurs’ clash with Juventus in the Champions League round of 16, it’ll come as a big blow to the north London side, who will struggle to cope with the attacking prowess of the Italians.
