Good news, Gooners: Arsenal star reveals Mesut Ozil has signed a new contract

Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny claims Mesut Ozil told him he’s signed a new contract with the Gunners despite no official confirmation from the club or player yet.

Sky Sports claimed yesterday that Ozil had agreed to pen a new deal at the Emirates Stadium, and the player himself appeared to tease fans with social media posts hinting at it yesterday.

The Germany international posted a picture of himself on Instagram and Twitter signing autographs with the caption: ‘Had a busy day signing things’

It is now surely only a matter of time before the new contract can be announced in what will be one of the best bits of news Arsenal fans have heard for months.

Despite some fine signings in the form of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan this January, Gooners have had to deal with seeing another of their best players leave the club for a rival as Alexis Sanchez joined Manchester United.

Ozil staying would be massive for Arsenal at this stage as they look to rebuild, and Elneny seems to be confident it’s all done.

‘I spoke to Mesut and he told me that he signed the new contract. He is a world class player on and off the pitch,’ the Egypt international told beIN Sports, as quoted in football.london.

‘He is a vital player for us and there is always a positive aura surrounding him.’
