Wayne Rooney plugs high-risk investments as part of Everton FC deal with trading website Blackwell Global
Would you buy an investment from him? Everton's Wayne Rooney's
A top football club is using its players to plug high-risk investments where eight in ten savers lose money.
Everton is plugging trading website Blackwell Global in a contest where savers bet on the rises and falls of currencies and precious metals, against stars such as Wayne Rooney and France midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.
Punters can win $5,000 (£3,794) and tickets to the club's January home game against Manchester United.
Savers don't bet real cash, as participants are asked to open a 'demo' account.
But Ben Yearsley, of adviser Shore Financial Planning, says: 'If this tempts people to open a proper account, I don't think that's right.'
Everton and Blackwell declined to comment.
