Around 140 firefighters last night tackled a warehouse blaze on White Hart Lane near Tottenham Hotspur's abandoned home ground.

The London Fire Brigade sent 25 engines to the scene in the north of the capital.  

It is understood the blaze started in a storage unit on White Hart Lane, around a mile and a half away from the football team's old ground which is being redeveloped while they play at Wembley.

A brigade spokeswoman said warehouse storage units were alight and officers were still trying to determine the cause of the fire

She said: 'Twenty five fire engines and around 140 firefighters have been called to a fire at a warehouse on White Hart Lane in Tottenham this evening.

'Warehouse storage units are alight. The brigade was called at 8.17pm and is still at the scene.

'Firefighters from Tottenham, Hornsey, Edmonton and the surrounding fire stations are at the scene.

She added: 'The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.'

Station Manager, Sam Kazmanli is at the scene, he said: 'This is a large fire, cylinders are involved so a hazard zone has been set as cylinders can explode when exposed to heat.

'There is a lot of smoke in the air. As a precaution, local residents are advised to keep their windows and doors closed.

'Crews will be working hard through the night to bring this blaze under control.'

London Ambulance Service said one patient had been taken to hospital with burns to the hand and crews remained at the scene.

A spokesman said: 'We were called just before 8pm.

'We sent two ambulance crews, an officer and members of our hazardous area response team to the scene.

'One patient has been treated and taken to hospital with burns to the hand and we remain on stand-by at the scene.'

The injuries are not thought to be serious, he added.
