Wayne Rooney has returned to training at Everton after completing his move from Manchester United.

The 31-year-old was snapped by the clubs reporters as he returned to Everton's Finch Farm base 13 years since originally leaving the Merseyside outfit.

The England striker also posted a picture of him in the Everton kit before training, along with the caption: 'Time to get started! #EFC.'

Rooney has signed a two-year deal at Everton, where he will earn £150,00 a week, and will take the No 10 shirt which has been vacated by Romelu Lukaku.

Just nine years old when he first joined the Toffees, he left in 2004 for Old Trafford when Sir Alex Ferguson came calling.

It is set to be an emotional return for Rooney, who could not contain his excitement as he was unveiled on Sunday afternoon.

'It's a great feeling to be back,' he told Everton's official website.

'I'm excited, I cannot wait to meet the lads, get on the training pitch and then get on the pitch to play. I'm ecstatic – I just cannot wait to get back playing.'

Heading in the opposite direction will be Lukaku, who is expected to take up the No 10 jersey at United, previously worn by Rooney.

The Belgium international is expected to meet up with his new United team-mates this week in the US, where he has been out on holiday with Paul Pogba.

And Lukaku is expected to be unveiled this week ahead of a £75million move to Old Trafford.
