Leicester will have to fork out £2.5m to take Burnley boss Sean Dyche from Turf Moor to the King Power Stadium

  • Leicester are on the lookout for a manager after sacking Craig Shakespeare
  • The Foxes have been linked with a move for Burnley boss Sean Dyche
  • A move would incur serious compensation costs, in the region of £2.5million
  • Huddersfield's David Wagner and Wales boss Chris Coleman are also linked

Leicester City face paying significant compensation for Sean Dyche should the club appoint him as Craig Shakespeare's successor, because he secretly signed an improved Burnley contract earlier this year.

Around £2.5million is required to prise Dyche from his deal at Turf Moor.

Dyche was rewarded with better terms towards the end of last season — and the club also protected itself with a higher buyout clause.

The move was kept quiet to avoid distractions at a crucial stage of the campaign. The last new deal Dyche made public was in February 2016.

But Dyche, 46, who has guided Burnley to seventh in the table this season, is interested in talks.

As well as representing a step up in terms of budget, the Leicester job makes geographical sense for Dyche, who divides his time between Lancashire and Northampton.

Leicester are yet to make any approaches but targets have been discussed at board level.

The club also admire Huddersfield's David Wagner, while Wales manager Chris Coleman is another being mentioned, but Sam Allardyce has ruled himself out for now.

Michael Appleton, made No 2 by Shakespeare this summer, has been placed in temporary charge and will pick the side to play Swansea on Saturday.
