Arteta fury as Everton fan mocks Arsenal star while posing for picture after defeat

Mikel Arteta reacted angrily to a photo taken with an Everton supporter following Arsenal's 3-0 defeat at Goodison Park on Sunday.

The Everton fan put his arm around the Spaniard at Liverpool Lime Street train station before raising three fingers to illustrate the number of goals scored by the hosts.

But Arteta, who scored an own goal and was booed by the home support throughout Sunday's Premier League clash, quickly pulled his arm away when he saw the fan's gesture.

Arteta, who spent six years at Everton, endured a miserable afternoon on his return to the club after his Arsenal side were soundly beaten by their top-four rivals.

Everton are now just one point behind the Gunners having played one game less as the two clubs vie for the final Champions League place.

Steven Naismith, Romelu Lukaku and Arteta's own goal saw Everton emerge clear winners at Goodison, but Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is '100 per cent determined' to maintain their fight to remain in the top four.

'I am absolutely 100 per cent determined to fight to make the top four but it will be difficult,' said Wenger.

'We have still a programme that is feasible but we have to first focus on the quality of our performances before we dream of places.

'Let's get back to playing better than that. Our performance was not convincing, not defensively, not offensively.

'We had a lot of the ball and were not really dangerous. At the moment we lack a bit of confidence to be dangerous and lack penetration as well.

'You feel from outside that the penetration and incisiveness of our games is missing. Everton were better and deserved to win. It was a very disappointing result and a very disappointing performance.
"We have to regroup and get back to basics.

'The fight is very open and is depending not only on us. Everton are in a strong position but we have confronted that before and it is how we respond.'
