Arsene Wenger believes it is vital that Arsenal defeat West Brom on Sunday in order to gather momentum going into next week's FA Cup final.

Despite impressing since January, the Gunners have not found the net at home since April 4 when they overcame Liverpool 4-1.

They have also failed to win any of their last three games and Wenger is wary of the need to secure a victory against West Brom as they prepare for Saturday's FA Cup final with Aston Villa.

'It is important to go into it [the cup final] with a good confidence level,' said Wenger.

'The confidence level comes from your recent results - and the recent result will of course be the game against West Brom. So it is vital.

'It is much better to go into the Aston Villa game on a winning note than any hiccup. We have used our hiccups now at home and we want to finish on a strong note.

'You want to share the final day of the Premier League with your fans on a high and send them back home in peace and hopeful for next season.'

Standing in Arsenal's way of a second successive FA Cup trophy is Aston Villa, who have been rejuvenated under Tim Sherwood.

Sherwood's appointment has seen the Midlands club steer clear of relegation, while youngster Jack Grealish and striker Christian Benteke have also thrived.

Both shone in Aston Villa's semi-final win over Liverpool and Wenger is aware of the threat they will pose to Arsenal.

'Grealish is a natural footballer player, like England have always produced in their history,' Wenger added.

'He looks comfortable on the ball and can take people on. He is calm and doesn't look fazed by anything.

'Benteke looks like he will score on every cross. He has the quality of timing and reading of the flight of ball. He's a great finisher and has a good technical level.'
