Michael Carrick is to be offered a fresh one-year deal to stay at Manchester United by Jose Mourinho.
The 35-year-old struggled for games earlier in the season and last week intimated that this season could be his last at Old Trafford.
Mourinho, however, has been impressed with Carrick's application. The central midfielder controlled proceedings against Arsenal on Saturday and has won praise for aiding Paul Pogba.

Jose Mourinho is impressed with Carrick's application but knows he needs adequate rest
There is an acceptance that Carrick's games need to be managed but his form has come as a welcome boost.
'We have a good understanding. We know when he can play,' Mourinho said. 'We know when he is ready and when he needs a rest.
'I am still having Michael Carrick and probably for one more season. Michael is 35 years old. It is very sad to know that time flies for every one of us.

'He is such a fantastic player and it is a pity instead of being his manager when he was 25 I am his manager when he is 35. I always loved him.'
Carrick cast doubt on his own future during an interview with Sky Sports last week.
When asked his time at United was coming to an end, Carrick said: 'There's always a chance of that isn't there? I'm 35 now and need to be realistic.
'It is such a great club with great players, you can't take it for granted and thankfully I'm here this season and playing my part.'
