Jose Mourinho is ready for a huge summer transfer splurge at Manchester United.
It remains unlikely the club will do business during this window given an upturn in results and a belief they cannot secure value for money.
United sources revealed they baulked at the figures quoted for Benfica central defender Victor Lindelof and have never lodged a bid for the Sweden international.
Mourinho has privately admitted that reshaping his squad could take three transfer windows as the Portuguese looks to mould them into Premier League title winners.

And they are ready to spend big in the summer with a similar signal of intent to his first few weeks in charge, when Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly all arrived.
There is interest in Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann, who United have kept a close eye on for over a year.
Mourinho is also looking at defensive reinforcements as well as another midfielder, with Monaco's Tiemoue Bakayoko the subject of interest. The Portuguese is mindful of the significant role 35-year-old Michael Carrick has played this season.
Morgan Schneiderlin has been allowed the chance to depart for Everton in a deal which could rise to £24million, while Bastian Schweinsteiger's return to the first-team fold does not alter his long-term future.

And Mourinho admitted they are ready to keep money back for a number of big-name signings at the end of the season.
'I am convinced that in this winter market we will be sellers and not buyers,' he told Portuguese channel Sport TV.
'We want to raise pounds to attack in the summer, as we did this year with the contract of four players.'
Meanwhile, Marcos Rojo is facing a race to prove his fitness ahead of Sunday's clash with Liverpool.

The Argentine limped out of the weekend FA Cup win against Reading after 19 minutes and missed the EFL semi-final victory over Hull City.
'Marcos has a muscular problem, not big,' Mourinho said.
'I'm not saying he's not ready to play, I'm saying that I have my doubts.'
