Mourinho has been hit by a selection headache in the buildup to Sunday's game with rookie goalkeeper Dean Henderson set for a place on the bench.
The teenager, whose only senior first-team experience is seven games on loan at Grimsby Town, has been put on standby for the match at Ewood Park because of an injury to David de Gea.
Though the injury is not thought to be serious, Mourinho is unwilling to risk the Spaniard only a week before the EFL Cup final against Southampton.
The United boss has already ruled out selling Luke Shaw, despite the left back's continuing struggle for first-team football.

The 21-year-old could be set for a rare outing on Sunday, and Mourinho has had words of encouragement for him.
'What I think is that he had a very ugly injury, really ugly, that affects players not only from the physical point but also the mental impact,' said Mourinho.
'He has had a couple of small injuries this season and needs to adapt. He knows what I like in a defender, he knows that I like stability, that I don't like mistakes, that for me it is to trust a player totally and he has to work to get it.'
