Bastian Schweinsteiger appears to have settled in quickly to life away from England as he took in NBA action with his wife Ana Ivanovic on Thursday.

Schweinsteiger, who has just signed for Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire, and his wife, the former tennis star, were pictured courtside at the United Center.

The sporting couple appeared in high spirits as they watched the basketball match between Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers.

And it proved a good match to watch as the Bulls secured a narrow victory in front of the former Manchester United midfielder.

Nikola Mirotic scored 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Jimmy Butler finished with 25 points as the Chicago Bulls completed a season sweep of the Cleveland Cavaliers with a 99-93 victory.

Mirotic, who was 9-of-14 from the field, sparked the Bulls from three-point range as Chicago finished 12 of 25 from beyond the arc.

Denzel Valentine (12 points) and Robin Lopez (10 points, 11 rebounds) also reached double figures for the Bulls.

Meanwhile, Schweinsteiger revealed he did not have the chance to say a 'proper' goodbye to his United team-mates before leaving for Chicago Fire.

The German brought an end to his 18-month spell at United last week, agreeing a free transfer with the MLS outfit on a one-year deal worth £3.5million.

But so rushed was the deal, and so close were United to playing Middlesbrough in the Premier League, Schweinsteiger revealed he did not have the chance to wish his peers a formal farewell.

Speaking to the Chicago press during his official unveiling, he said: 'It was not so easy because the decision was a bit late so I couldn't say a proper goodbye to the team.

'Also they had a match away – I can't remember – so I couldn't really tell them because I didn't want the focus on me, but on the team.

'I had a great time there, especially with the team-mates and the staff there.'
