Italy coach Giampiero Ventura has questioned Manchester United's treatment of Matteo Darmian since the end of the season.

The defender has not been allowed to join up with his international team-mates ahead of their meeting with San Marino on Wednesday despite being named in the latest squad.

The 27-year-old may also miss the clash with Uruguay on June 7 but should be available for a World Cup qualifier against Liechtenstein four days later.

United have not allowed the right back to join up with Italy despite finishing his club season in the Europa League final on May 24.

Speaking in a press-conference, coach Ventura said: 'I'd also add Darmian, he doesn't have permission from United to come to us until June 5.

'A bizarre choice, as he's been stopped since the Europa League final, and I think we've lost him for the Uruguay game too. A bizarre choice.

'We're not going to cry though, we've lost many players over the months but locally we have a lot of youngsters thanks to the training camps.'
