John Terry reveals he needed daily injections for a year in order to get through the pain under Jose Mourinho: 'He was desperate for me to play'

John Terry required daily injections in order to play for a whole year at Chelsea under manager Jose Mourinho.

Terry has revealed how Mourinho, during the 2014-15 Premier League-winning season, was keen for the Blues captain to play every match.

The 36-year-old, who will leave Stamford Bridge at the end of June, told the club's website: 'I remember in Jose Mourinho's years he was desperate for me to play or train when I had a broken toe and a broken bone in my foot.'

'I had to have two injections in my toe every day for a whole year, one before training and sometimes the doctor would have to come out and re-inject me because it wore off in training if it was a longer session than an hour.

'It was just a given for me. I played through the pain barrier numerous times. In the 2015 Premier League-winning season when I played every minute of every game, you just find a way.

'I would do it again tomorrow because it sounds crazy but you would give your life for the football club when they have given you so much over the years.' 

The 2014-15 Premier League culminated in Terry lifting the league title

His last trophy for Chelsea came in May when he lifted the Premier League trophy again

Terry's 22-year stay at Chelsea will come to an end on June 30. 

On Thursday, his wife Toni shared photographs of the couple doing some exercise while on holiday.

Despite having not decided whether he will retire from football, Terry appeared keen to keep himself in top condition.   

A number of clubs remain interested in signing him but he is yet to make a decision on his long-term future.
