Manchester United legend Paul Scholes rolls back the years with vintage pass to Wayne Rooney during Michael Carrick's testimonial

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes reminded supporters what they're missing as he rolled back the years during Michael Carrick's testimonial at Old Trafford.

The 42-year-old was part of a 'Manchester United 2008' XI that played against Harry Redknapp's 'All-Stars' to mark Carrick's 11-years at the club.

And in the first half Scholes showed he had not lost his eye for a pass, producing a trademark through-ball to release Wayne Rooney behind the All-Stars' back four.

The pass put Rooney in behind the 'All-Stars' back four and one-on-one with Shay Given

Rooney brought the ball down but was unable to convert the chance at Old Trafford on Sunday

With the score at 0-0 after 13 minutes Scholes picked the ball up inside his own half and sprayed a perfectly-weighted ball to put Rooney one-on-one with Shay Given.

The forward lifted the ball over the keeper and on to the roof of the net but the pass did not go unnoticed. It drew cries of admiration from the crowd and praise from former United midfielder Quinton Fortune.

'The pass from Scholes -- a lot of people see the pass but (can’t do) the execution,' Fortune said at half-time.

Scholes made 702 appearances for United between 1994 and 2013, scoring 149 goals

'Wayne Rooney must be crying out for someone like Scholes in that United midfield just to do that pass.'

Scholes made 702 appearances for United between 1994 and 2013, scoring 149 goals and registering 49 assists.

He won 24 major trophies during an illustrious career before hanging up his boots for good after 21 years at the club.
