Manchester United's season may have only just ended but Ander Herrera is already thinking about facing Real Madrid in the European Super Cup.

United rounded off their campaign by beating Ajax 2-0 in the Europa League final last month to qualify for the Champions League.

It means United boss Jose Mourinho has won three pieces of silverware in his first season at Old Trafford - the Community Shield, EFL Cup and Europa League.

The Europa League win also means they will play in the European Super Cup on August 8 against Real - who beat Juventus 4-1 in the Champions League final on Saturday to qualify.

And Herrera said the team have already turned their attention to the glamorous clash and hailed his manager for delivering on his promise for trophies.

'We're already thinking about the European Super Cup,' he told Sky Sports via FourFourTwo

'Football is about trophies, no? About achieving objectives. Now we are going to play Champions League.

'Three trophies: League Cup, Community Shield and Europa League. In the beginning of the season we were talking about that.

'The manager said he was coming to Manchester United to win trophies and he has done it. First season, three trophies.'

On a personal note Herrera has thrived under Mourinho and his performances saw him awarded with the club's player of the year award for 2016-17.

And the Spaniard said Mourinho made it clear he could be a key player for the team during a meeting at the start of the season.

'I knew at the beginning of the season that I could be an important player for the team,' Herrera added.

'I had a meeting with him and he told me I was going to be important to him if I got some points and I did it.'

The European Super Cup final between United and Real will take place in Skopje, Macedonia at the 33,000-capacity Philip II Arena.
