Kylian Mbappe, Marcus Rashford and Gianluigi Donnarumma feature in our £500m teen idols... but how far would this XI go in the Champions League?

  • Sportsmail have picked an exciting XI made up of the world's best teenage talent
  • Premier League stars Tom Davies, Marcus Rashford and Axel Tuanzebe feature
  • Renato Sanches and Christian Pulisic also make the cut in our £500million side
  • How far would this exciting but inexperienced side go in the Champions League?

You can win things with kids – Manchester United's Class of '92 and Ajax's Champions League team under Louis van Gaal have proved that. But usually those youngsters have had an experienced head or two to help them become successful, Eric Cantona and Frank Rijkaard among those to have performed the role.

But what if a side was made up of the best teenagers from one to XI, how would they fare then? Could the talent of AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, Kylian Mbappe and Marcus Rashford conquer all before them?

Sportsmail picks the ultimate £500million team of teen idols from home and abroad and asks whether their dazzling talent would make up for a lack of collective experience.

GIANLUIGI DONNARUMMA – AC MILAN

Age: 18

His decision not to sign a new contract at the San Siro has led to huge controversy with Italy Under 21 fans throwing money at him in the goalmouth during the current European Championship.

Seen as the heir to the legendary Gianluigi Buffon, most of Europe's leading clubs will be interested in securing Donnarumma's services. 'I look at him and see Buffon 20 years ago,' said Nevio Scala, who gave Buffon his Serie A debut at 16 with Parma.

AXEL TUANZEBE – MANCHESTER UNITED

Age: 19

Had to skip England's recent Under 20 World Cup triumph because he was on Europa League final duty with his club but it'll only be a matter of time before he's in contention for senior international caps.

Mancunian can play anywhere along the defensive line and United have kept three clean sheets in his five first-team appearances so far. Signed a new three-year contract at Old Trafford earlier this year.

FILIP BENKOVIC – DINAMO ZAGREB

Age: 19

Centre-back has already come up against the likes of Alexandre Lacazette and Gonzalo Higuain in the Champions League and British clubs like Newcastle and Celtic have shown interest, with the price range expected to be around £25m.

Regarded as one of the most promising young defenders in Europe, Benkovic has earned comparisons with Germany's Mats Hummels, although he is more athletic than the Bayern star.

RYAN SESSEGNON – FULHAM

Age: 17

Has already clocked up 30 first-team appearances and he only turned 17 last month. The left-back is tipped to go on and become England's next Ashley Cole and Liverpool and Tottenham have both expressed interest.

Sessegnon scored seven goals last season, a sign of his attacking quality, and manager Slavisa Jokanovic thinks he should spend an extra season at Craven Cottage to gain extra first-team experience. 'I believe this is the right place for him,' he said.

RENATO SANCHES – BAYERN MUNICH

Age: 19

Signed by Bayern Munich last summer after an incredible season for the energetic midfielder in which he won a league championship with Benfica and Euro 2016 for Portugal.

Has struggled to win a regular starting place at Bayern however with the language barrier proving difficult. Has declared himself ready to fight to establish himself but if Carlo Ancelotti decides to sell, there won't be any shortage of takers. Currently involved in the Under 21 European Championship.

TOM DAVIES – EVERTON

Age: 18

Ronald Koeman has an embarrassment of riches in central midfield but Davies, nephew of former Crystal Palace and Everton star Alan Whittle, has already shown himself good enough to get a regular run in the team.

With his shock of blonde hair and non-stop running, Davies is an easily-recognisable figure, and capped a man-of-the-match performance by scoring the third goal in January's 4-0 win against Manchester City. England have agreed to leave him out of their Under 19 squad for the European Championship so he could rest this summer.

CHRISTIAN PULISIC – BORUSSIA DORTMUND

Age: 18

The great hope for American soccer, Pulisic has already made more than 50 first-team appearances for Dortmund and is Team USA's best hope for reaching the World Cup next summer.

Best known as a winger, Pulisic has already shown the maturity to run a game centrally as he did when Dortmund beat Benfica to reach the knockout stages of the Champions League. 'He's demonstrated at a young age that he's capable of getting the job done in a lot of positions,' said US national team coach Bruce Arena of the German Cup winner.

KYLIAN MBAPPE – MONACO

Age: 18

There's not much else that can be said about Mbappe. He is quite simply the most sought-after player in world football at the present time.

He scored 24 times for Monaco as they won the French League last season and also became the youngest scorer in Champions League semi-final history when he netted against Juventus. Quick and mobile like a lot of young talents, he also has a match intelligence and composure in front of goal that makes him stand out.

Didier Deschamps has added him to the French squad this year and he could stay an extra season with Monaco before moving to Real Madrid as his main aim is regular games so he can play in the World Cup.

VINICIUS JUNIOR – FLAMENGO/REAL MADRID

Age: 16

The hype around the next Brazilian superstar is huge. Real Madrid last month tied up a £40million deal to sign Vinicius in June 2018, more than treble the price of the world's previously most-expensive 16-year-old, Theo Walcott.

It's a huge act of faith from Madrid given that Vinicius has played just one first-team game for Flamengo so far but they had to act quickly with Manchester United and Barcelona also interested. Vinicius has electric speed and an eye for goal. He scored seven times as Brazil were crowed world Under 17 champions.

KASPER DOLBERG – AJAX

Age: 19

Disappointed in the Europa League final against Manchester United but it shouldn't take anything away from an outstanding season for the Danish striker who was recommended to Ajax by Dennis Bergkamp.

Dolberg was Ajax's top league scorer with 16, scoring an array of goals with head and feet, and accidentally broke a supporter's wrist with the power of his shooting in a warm-up. A clutch of Premier Leauge clubs including Liverpool, Everton and United have regularly sent scouts to Amsterdam to check on his progress.

MARCUS RASHFORD – MANCHESTER UNITED

AGE: 19

Homegrown talent in keeping with United's proud tradition of developing the Busby Babes and Class of '92.

Rashford will eventually end up as a centre-forward using his pace to run in behind defences but he has also been used wide for club and country. Scored four goals in his first two appearances for United and ended last season in double figures for club and country, including winners in the Europa League quarter and semi-finals.

Looks an almost certain starter for England at next summer's World Cup with manager Gareth Southgate a huge fan of his personality and strong mentality as well as his natural gifts of speed and control.

HOW WOULD THEY DO IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE?

The fact that Mbappe shone in Monaco's run to the semi-final and Rashford was instrumental in United winning the Europa League indicates this team would not be underestimated because of a lack of experience.

This group boasts league championships, European trophies and in the case of Sanches, a European Championship. Most players finishing their careers couldn't claim that.

Of course, having older players alongside helps youngsters to develop, but the way Monaco knocked out Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund gave Juventus a scare with a largely young team means it's not impossible.

Certainly this team of teen idols would run the legs off any opponent. It is harder to learn the positional sense that world-class defenders and midfielders possess as teenagers but Davies showed real maturity for Everton last season and Sanches came out on top against Paul Pogba in the final of Euro 2016.

This team might 'do a Monaco' and upset one or two very good teams in a Champions League run before running into a Juventus that has too much knowhow.
