Pep Guardiola and Ryan Giggs are among the stellar names converging on The Belfry this weekend for a Ryder Cup-style Icons of Football golf tournament.

Guardiola and Giggs will be lining up for the Rest of the World, captained by Darren Clarke, to face the likes of Michael Carrick and Phil Jagielka who figure in England's line-up, captained by Lee Westwood.

The three day event at the Belfry, four-times home of the Ryder Cup, boasts a venerable who's who of footballing greats with Ronald De Boer, Italian striker Alessandro Del Piero, Argentinian Gabriel Batistuta and former Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic also figuring for the Rest of the World.

They are up against a talented England side that has James Milner, Teddy Sheringham, Paul Ince, Andy Cole, Paul Scholes and Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler among their ranks.


An excitable Jimmy Bullard has also been drafted in as a wild card.

The golf enthusiasts will also have the chance to win £1million for their chosen charity with a hole in one contest.

Chester-based Iconiqe are behind the event and founder Tom Brookes said: 'There is something for everyone throughout the weekend from hospitality to a Pro Am tournament on the Friday when corporates and sponsors can play alongside the big name players.

'We have Capital FM star Marvin Humes DJing over the weekend in our VIP areas and champagne tents too.'

Live music will be provided by Tony Hadley from Spandau Ballet and Paul Carrack from Mike and the Mechanics.

A share of proceeds from the event will be split between three charities – Special Effect, The Bluebell Hospice and regional charity Smile for Joel, set up last year in memory of football referee Joel Richards who died along with his uncle and grandfather in the Tunisia terror attack of 2015.

Admission for the tournament is free for under 12s and start from £5 for children per day and £18 for an adult. Weekend prices are discounted whilst VIP packages are £270. Separate tickets for the Gala Dinner on Sunday night including dinner and entertainment are priced at £199.
